About this print

In 1983 Doctor Who Producer John Nathan-Turner tasked BBC Costume Designer Pat Godfrey to design The Sixth Doctor's costume. His brief was simply to make it 'totally tasteless!' The rest, as they say, is history!

Reproduced directly from the original costume design, this is the first time that this remarkable image has ever been commercially released. It will not be made available again in this format.

It is exclusively hand signed by Colin Baker (The Sixth Doctor) and Pat Godfrey.

This print is accompanied by a ‘From Script to Screen’ booklet explaining the design and production process. It contains an introduction by the Sixth Doctor, Colin Baker; a detailed interview with Pat Godfrey by prop and costume expert Grahame Flynn; and a biographical commentary about series Producer John Nathan-Turner.

This 28 page lavishly illustrated publication also includes concept drawings, and museum quality images of the original costume and fabrics.

Your Certificate of Authenticity is your lifetime guarantee that your print has been produced to The Fine Art Trade Guild Standards with 100% pigmented inks tested to last over 75 years without noticeable fade, on acid free archival fine art papers. It clearly confirms the size of the edition and that the signatures are genuine.

"It's a brilliant reproduction of my original work!"

Pat Godfrey, former BBC Senior Costume Designer.

"The booklet is superbly produced and presented; I learned a lot!"

Colin Baker (The Sixth Doctor)

"I just want to say how incredibly impressed I am with the Colin Baker costume artwork from your Doctor Who Prints range.  I recall seeing an image of this print in a magazine many years ago and was fascinated by it.  Seeing a copy of the print in the highest possible quality blew me away (as well as that previous image I had seen).  The attention to detail in the book which accompanies this makes a fascinating read.  I am extremely impressed by the amount of research and detail that has gone into this, as well as the commitment to high quality within the print itself such as the paper used and printing processes involved to maintain the lustre and richness of the colours.I know that I will never own the original design for this, one of the most colourful and flamboyant costumes of the entire show, but feel that I have the closet possible alternative.I knew John Nathan-Turner a little – definitely no where near as well as you did, yet I am sure that he would be proud of the range you have launched.  Certainly the artwork for this costume, the Sylvester McCoy print and any other that you launch from John’s era on the show will also be a testament to his creative input as well as those of the designers.Thank you for working to make this iconic piece of art available and I wish you every success with the range.I’m looking forward to seeing what will join Colin’s costume on my wall!"

Darren Elliott, United Kingdom

"I have known Grahame for over 15 years through collecting original Doctor Who props and costumes, his knowledge on the subject is second to none. If I ever need information on a particular piece whether it be maker, material used etc he always has the answers. I cannot think of a better person to be producing such a fantastic in depth and displayable piece of Doctor Who merchandise.

"…thanks so much for sending the print, it is beautiful and proudly displayed in my office."

Jordon Goodman, Vice President Business Development, AuthenticBrandsGroup, New York

" My print of the 6th Doctor costume arrived today. I have to say that not only did it meet my expectations but it surpassed them. It is a true piece of art and will hang very proudly on my wall once framed. I have to admit I do have a hope that you will eventually end up doing all remaining ten doctors similar justice but I understand this relies on sales, and people to contribute to the equally amazing booklet. Again many thanks and will keep my eye out for future endeavours."

Richard Lipp, Australia

"We have just purchased our Classic Doctor Who 6th Doctor Costume Design Print from the Collectable Art Company and are absolutely thrilled with it. The print itself is an extremely detailed A2 reproduction of the original costume design by Pat Godfrey way back in 1984.  The colours are vibrant and the image crisp and has been tastefully signed by both the costume designer and Doctor number six, Colin Baker in pencil. The print also comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity and a booklet detailing the origins of this rather unique costume!  Featuring an interview with Pat where she explains her thoughts on the creation of the costume and a witty and honest introduction from Colin.  It is packed with good quality photos of the original costume plus photos from the time featuring Colin and producer John Nathan-Turner .  There are some lovely quotes from JNT where he initially loved the costume idea to finally realising that it may have been a mistake.  As collectors of original Doctor Who props and costumes ourselves (www.classicdoctorwhoprops.com), we would have hoped for more detailed information about the costume but for general Who fans the balance is perfect.

We were so impressed with the quality of this first costume print, that we immediately agreed to loan our original 7th Doctor costume for photographing for the second limited edition print - Sylvester McCoy’s costume by Ken Trew".

"Grahame has come up with a winner, this is a great idea for a unique product. Grahame Flynn is a long standing and well respected member of the collecting community and we wish him the very best!"
